A Puppet Play adapted from a Brer Rabbit story.
RABBIT
(On the phone) Oh no Miss Meadows, I already have a ride to your party this afternoon. Uh huh, I have a ride thatÕs going to be very special. Did you know that Fox was my DaddyÕs riding horse for years? Yes, he was and...
ThereÕs a knock at the door.
RABBIT
ThatÕs him right now, IÕll be right over! See you soon.
Rabbit sneezes loudly.
RABBIT
(Quietly) Fox has tricked me too many times, now itÕs his turn to look foolish. (Loudly, with a stuffy sounding nose.) WhoÕs there?
FOX
ItÕs Fox, are you ready to leave for Miss MeadowÕs party?
Rabbit answers the door with a tissue in his hand, and blows his nose loudly.
RABBIT
(Overly dramatic) Oh Fox, IÕm afraid that I donÕt feel well enough to go to the party. ItÕs too far for me to walk in this condition.
FOX
Oh, thatÕs too bad, I know Miss Meadows was counting on you coming to her party. IÕm stronger than you think. I can carry you in my arms if you like.
RABBIT
IÕll bet you are, but IÕm afraid my fur is sooo silky smooth that youÕd drop me. IÕd be more comfortable if youÕd carry me on your back. AH CHOO!
FOX - Well, I guess I couldÉ
RABBIT
Oh, I might fall off though... I donÕt think I could ride you without you wearing a saddle.
FOX - A saddle! Um, wellÉ
(Rabbit Sneezes loudly)
FOX
Oh, you really are sick arenÕt you? Hmmm, I guess that would be OK, but do they make saddles for foxes?
Rabbit quickly leaves the room and comes back with a fox sized saddle and bridle.
FOX
Oh, I see you already have one... Wait, where did you get that? Is that a bridle? That was NOT part of the agreement! (Rabbit starts to put the saddle on Fox.) How much did this cost you?
RABBIT
Of course lÕlI need the bridle or else I wonÕt have anything to hold on to.
FOX
YeahÉ Wait a second. Are we being filmed? Is this one of those hidden camera shows?
RABBIT
(Finishing putting the bridle on FoxÕs mouth) Almost ready!
FOX - (Sighs) I guess I canÕt back down nowÉletÕs get this over with.
Rabbit leaps onto FoxÕs back and they gallop off with Fox looking very foolish.
