FACTS OF INTEREST:
- Cats appeared in cartoon drawings in ancient Egypt. In one tableau depicting a variety of animals engaged in human activities, a cat, walking on its hind legs, uses a shephard's staff to tend a flock of geese.
- The firs 20th Century cartton cat - Krazy Kat appeared in an early comic strip which ran in newspapers across the U.S. from 1913 to 1944.
- Felix was the first animated cartoon cat. He was a well-known "star" of silent movies during the 1920's, as well-loved as Charlie Chaplin.
- The cat has been a popular character in cartoons ever since, from Sylvester in Looney Tunes and Thomas Cat in Tom and Jerry, to the more recent heroes of the comic world, like Garfield and Heathcliff.
