FACTS OF INTEREST:
- Boa constrictors are related to giant anacondas and pythons. They live in warm areas from northern Mexico through South America.
- Boas are one of the smaller snakes of the Constrictor family. Most are under ten feet, though a 20 foot snake was found on the island of Trinidad.
- Boas are considered primitive snakes. They do not kill with venom but rather by constriction. They squeeze the breath out of their prey.
- Boas are hunted for their skins and for food, and are killed by farmers for stealing chickens. Boas are also popular pets.
